When Japanese brand cars are imported to the U.S., their names are often different from the ones sold in Japan.  Some of the ridiculous ones:  Did you know that the 300 ZX is called the Fairlady?  The Sentra is called the Sunny. Nissan has an upscale model called the Cedric/Gloria.  They also have a van called a Homy.  Mazda's van is called the bongo. Heard of any others?

The 240ZX is called BLUEBIRD in HK and the Eclipse clone is called the FTO etc etc.     Naming is every important for marketing Yoshi kun. In HK where I came from 20 years age, Posche have to  drop the 944 since nobody like 44 (must die).  But they brough a lot of 928s. And Alfa romeo change their 614 to 618 since 8 is loved by Chinese, 8 sounds like ' getting rich'.

I can understand that car names are changed , for example I had a friend who sold Mitsubishs here in Oz and he reconed that they had to change the name of the Pajero when it was to be sold in Spain I think it was because it meant wanker in that language . Thats the way the story went but I may have the country . Its probably an approprate name for most people who drive 4WD in the city any way . The thing I find most interesting is that the names the Japanese choose for their cars are often impossable for them to pronounce properly themselves ie celica - serika , cedric - sedoriku , corola - korora , charade - shyaredo . Another thing I noticed about Japanese cars here in Oz is that the sales men say the centro is the new revised version of the mira which is a lie because Ive seen the new mira . This leads me to only one conclussion, apart from the fact that we know car sales men are liers , and that is that we in Oz get all the failed and second rate models from Japan .

Presumably it was meant to compete with the Mustang......   Say it ain't so... please. -8(
